It is advisable when you get a new puppy that you bring it in to the surgery for a junior health check where we can register it with the practice and provide a thorough health-evaluation. At this stage we will make sure that your puppy or kitten is developing normally, make a record of their weight and provide a general health assessment. Depending upon the age of the puppy or kitten, we may also be able to start their program of vaccinations and discuss any queries you may have with regards to worming, castrations, microchipping or feeding.
The first health check is free of charge, but once your puppy or kitten has grown up, we still recommend regular health check-ups to ensure the long-term health and welfare of your pets. A good time to do this is at the time of their annual vaccination boosters where we carry out a full physical examination and health check as standard. Any health problems should hopefully be spotted and treatment can be suggested. However, if you feel that your pet may be unwell you don’t need to wait until their annual check up, we would be more than happy to see you at the surgery where we can discuss any concerns you may have.
If your pet suffers from a chronic problem like diabetes or heart disease we will often want to see them more regularly that once a year to ensure that they are remaining healthy and to make any adjustments to their medications. Please see our Nurse Clinics.
